A fun day trip to a beautiful gorge and waterfall area in Yamanashi. Trip features ropeway, short hike, waterfalls, Mt Fuji views as well as a visit to two local wineries and optional hot spring to finish.
Shosenkyo is a picturesque gorge located in the Kofu region of Yamanashi prefecture. With towering cliffs & stunning waterfalls/rapids the 4km walk through the gorge is a great way to spend a spring morning. We will also be riding the nearby cable car to the summit to take in the sweeping views of Mt Fuji and surrounds.
After leaving the Shosenkyo gorge we will be visiting two local wineries in the Katsunuma area of Yamanashi. The surrounding mountains create a convenient geographical location that provides both stunning views and a cool, relatively dry climate that is far more ideal for growing grapes than other areas of Japan. The first winery has several whites, reds and sparkling varieties on offer as well as some more off-beat fruit and even green tea wines all of which are available for free tasting. The second winery features a huge cellar with over 170 wines available for tasting. Good times!
The final winery also features an excellent onsen located on a mountain with sweeping panoramic views over the valley - a great way to end the day!
