A full day hiking to the peak of the towering Mt Tanigawadake! Trip features long ropeway, best time for autumn colors and visit to the amazing Takaragawa onsen village.
Mt Tanigawadake lies on the border of Gunma & Niigata prefectures. The mountain features towering peaks and stunning rocky outcrops that offer incredible 360deg views from several lookouts along the way. Mid October sees the mountain covered in reds and oranges as the autumn leaves change color making for a very picturesque hike. The hike itself is not difficult although there are a few places where you must use your hands to navigate the rocky trail. Hiking to the summit from the upper ropeway station takes around 3 hours and the return takes around 2 hours.
After descending from the mountain we will visit Takaragawa Onsen; a huge outdoor hot spring village next to a beautiful river. The onsen is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in Japan. There are several large outdoor baths to soak in, relax and take in the natural surroundings. Definitely a great way to finish off a day of hiking!
