Kozushima Long Weekend Island Getaway

Kozushima Long Weekend Island Getaway

A long weekend escape to a beautiful island! Snorkeling, swimming, surfing, sunbaking, relaxing, platform diving, natural hot springs, hiking, bbqs and more!

Overview

Join us for a long weekend adventure to Kozushima!

Kozushima is one of the Izu islands, located around 160km from the Tokyo port, famous for its spectacular scenery - stunning beaches and crystal clear water. The island has something for everyone with excellent surfing & swimming beaches, many incredible scuba diving and snorkeling locations, outstanding hiking trails, natural hot springs and much more. The temperate climate of the island provides perfect conditions for hard coral and all variety of fish making it a great destination for snorkelers & divers.

PAST TRIP PHOTOS - VIEW ALBUM

The island is also reknowned throughout Japan as one of the best star gazing locations, with many travelling to the island just to take in the incredible nighttime starscape displays the clear island air offers. The island is recognized as the first island in Tokyo to be designated an International Dark Sky Park (Dark Sky Island). This designation, by the International Dark-Sky Association in December 2020, acknowledges Kozushima's efforts in preserving its dark skies and nocturnal environment, making it a natural planetarium at night.

At Nagumi bay, on the northern end of the island, there are a series of super fun wooden boardwalks and diving platforms that are always very popular (see the pics from our past trips and on this page). This is also one of the clearest snorkeling and diving areas with 15m deep dives possible right off the beach.

Our campsite is centrally located, right in front of the beach. The campsite has great facilities and its is easily walkable to the nearby hot springs and central part of the island village. There is also a regular bus that runs around the island stopping at our campsite.

We will be cooking up gourmet BBQs each night of the trip (vegetarians options available) and will follow this up with a campfire to relax into the night.

Looking forward to our island adventure!

Kozushima was my first big trip by myself to an Island. I went by myself but always felt supported by staff and other members. I felt sick one night and staff and others helped me and I could recover and enjoy the rest of my trip. The boat was super nice with great facilities like restaurant, showers, sleeping area, and even a scavenger hunt. You could buy most food, snacks, and even alcohol on the boat as well. The island is beautiful and the campground had great facilities like washlet toilets, outlets for charging, and gorgeous ocean view in front of you! Akasaki promenade was great for snorkeling and the onsen near our campground was wonderful. There were shops in town you could go to as well to buy food and drinks. Tokyo Snow Club fed us well every night with multi course bbqs! Breakfast was also great fuel for the day. I’d really like to thank the staff for supporting me and working so hard during the trip. I can’t wait to go again!

It was my first time heading out to these islands as well as trying out camping, and I'm happy to say that it Tokyo Snow Club made it an amazing experience. The trip was fun and well organized. I was able to enjoy my own activities (diving) but was also easily able to hop into the prepared activities like enjoying fireworks and stargazing on the beach. Loved the daily BBQ, guides were nice and friendly, and overall great vibes throughout the whole trip.

The trip was exceptionally well-organized, and the staff members were friendly and accommodating. What I particularly enjoyed about this experience was the flexibility it offered—participants could either partake in structured events or create their own plans. The organized activities, such as the planned firecrackers and island night exploration, added a delightful touch to the overall experience. The only hiccup was the transportation on the island, which got a bit confusing. The bus schedule was only every other hour, and if I missed one, it wasn't exactly within a walkable distance. On the bright side, fellow travelers were a friendly bunch, and it's worth noting that the place is both pet-friendly and vegan-friendly. While the travel to the island was a bit lengthy, the staff went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a good time. I was on this journey with five of our friends, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. In fact, I've already booked another trip and am looking forward more winter fun ahead.
